Weekly Goals

I'm going on 3 weeks now with ZERO weight loss. I technically weigh in tomorrow... but I know I didn't lose much (if anything). I suppose now that I'm 10 pounds away from my goal weight I need to mix things up. It used to be as simple as "calories in, calories out".... but I think now is when I really need to take a look at what I'm feeding my body. I eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, but I also eat a lot of 100 calories packs and sugar free jello. And diet soda. Ugh. Now it's time to really get serious about what I'm eating so I can get rid of these final stubborn 10 pounds.

The first thing to go is my morning oatmeal. It's instant oatmeal, and pretty much total crap. I liked to eat it because it's low in points and it fills me up. I know it's one of the things that has to go....

The past two mornings I've had a Green Monster  for breakfast. It is SO yummy and SO filling. I originally heard about them from my friend, Dani. Although I never tried one until this week.

To make a basic green monster is quite simple....

  • 1 banana
  • 1 T flax seeds
  • 1 c. non-dairy milk (or dairy if you prefer) *I use Silk with no added Sugar*
  • 1-2 c. of spinach (I cook it in water in the microwave for about 3 minutes first)
  • Ice

Throw it all in a blender....

Looks yummy huh?!

Blend it all together...

Green Monster!!

I know it sounds somewhat revolting. Spinach and banana?! But, you cannot taste the spinach at all. The banana flavor completely over powers it. Give it a try! It might be your new favorite thing.

(Oh, and for you WWers, the way I made it in the recipe above it's 5 points. But it depends a lot on what milk you use.)

The second thing I'm changing this week is..... No more soda.

This really shouldn't be too difficult. I don't drink a lot anyway... but I need to just completely cut it out. It serves no purpose. I read a very good article recently about how important water is. It really motivated me to drink a lot of water and cut out the caffeine that I do not need.

These are my goals for the week. Writing them down and telling all of "you" will hopefully help me stick to them!

What are your goals for the week?

The green monster still looks absolutely disgusting. But I think since it now has two votes for yummy I may have to try it! You are working so hard. I hope you get an unexpected surprise at weigh in tomorrow!

Awesome goals, T.....I'm definitely trying the green monster, sounds delish! And your right, letting go of the sodas shouldn't be a big deal for you.
My goals? Figuring out which local farmer's market I'll be getting all my organic produce and dairy from AND getting back into my exercise routine. Why it is that when a health issue arises I completely shut down my activity and stretching regimen? Weird. Another way I'm switching gears is trying to rid my diet of sugar, bad carbs and processed foods. Hopefully I'll be at a healthier weight by the year end and can avoid surgery !
Can I just say that you and Phil are doing an excellent job of getting into to shape, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and setting a primo example for your little man. WTG!

In regards to your oatmeal - I don't think you have to give oatmeal itself up. Maybe just the processed kind?

I eat rolled oats and thawed berries in the morning. The juice from the berries provides a palatable flavor too. Some days I get in a good chocolate fix and add 15 g of coconut, 15 g of dark chocolate, 1 tbsp better n peanut butter.

I'm with Lisa--the green monster still looks gross but I'm intrigued so I may just have to convince myself to try it...

My main goal is to drink more water. I usually only drink water when I'm at the gym so I know I'm not drinking nearly enough! I upped my water intake 2 weeks ago..first week I gained and I wonder if it had to do w/ my body adjusting b/c the 2nd week I lost? Good luck on your goals!!

you are so motivating!

and here's the third vote that the green monster just looks and sounds yuck! I acually bought the stuff to make it once, but chickened out. You might have convinced me though!

So I just spent the last hour reading every single one of your blog entries :)

YOU are inspirational, my dear! So glad you found my blog, which in turn led me to find yours!

Isn't CrossFit the absolute craziest, most fun, most mentally challenging thing you've ever done? I LOVE it and am completely addicted. I have a hard time taking rest days because I just want to be at the box with my friends :)

Excited to read more about your weight loss & CF experiences?

PS: Have you tried eating a Paleo/Zone diet? I know you're doing WW now (which I have heard is an excellent start to weight loss). If you haven't looked into Paleo or Zone or combining them to do Paleo/Zone (or as my husband and I call it, "Zoleo"), I strongly recommend it! I dropped weight SO fast eating Zoleo & doing CF, it's not even funny. And I wasn't trying to lose weight!
